The Biosolids for the Edmonton Region are produced from the City of Edmonton’s Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant (“GBWWTP”) and the Alberta Capital Region Wastewater Treatment Plant (“ACRWC”). The Biosolids are anaerobically digested sludge from the wastewater treatment processes at GBWWTP and ACRWC. The Biosolids are gravity thickened at the Clover Bar lagoons and dewatered, prior to it being transported for beneficial use application.

The goal of this project is to utilize dewatered biosolids from the Clover Bar Lagoons in a non-agricultural beneficial use project to diversify the biosolids program. The proposed project must meet the requirements of Alberta Environment and Protected Areas. The proposed project will complement the established land application to agricultural soils program. Non-agricultural projects are expected to demonstrate beneficial use of biosolids and provide alternative uses outside the existing provincial guidelines. Any proposed project must meet all conditions of Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and be viable for authorization under the Environmental Protection & Enhancement Act.
